RAMEAU  Overture from Näis

HAYDN Serenade from String Quartet in F

One of Australia's leading trumpet players performs the most popular trumpet concerto of all times. The concert opens with more trumpets making a splash in the brilliant overture from Rameau's Opera Näis, and finishes with Mozart's sublime 'Prague' Symphony.

SUK Serenade for Strings

FINZI Let Us Garlands Bring

GRIEG  Two Elegiac Melodies

SCHUBERT Two Songs (arr. Banney)

In an homage to the Camerata's first recording, now ten years ago, Christopher Allan joins the orchestra in Finzi's beautiful song cycle, Let Us Garlands Bring. The concert ends with Suk's brilliant Serenade for Strings, a brilliant work that owes much to the influence and guidance of Dvorak, his teacher and future father-in-law. And we begin with Grieg's delightful Elegiac melodies, works that bring the richest possible sounds from any string orchestra.

RACHMANINOFF Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini

KILAR  Orawa

GROH Intradas (arr Groh)

DAVID BANNEY Sinfonietta

Erin Sweetman joins the Camerata in the 'Rach-Pag' - one of the epics of the piano repertoire. Numerous composers have made sets of variations on Paganini's original melody, including Paganini himself, but none are more popular than Rachmaninoff's brilliant work, which includes one of the greatest tunes of all time in the 18th Variation. The colour of Eastern European music continues in Kilar's marvellous 'Orawa', an evocation of folk fiddlers on the Polish mountains. Also on the program, arrangements by our Principal Violist, Paul Groh, of delightful works by the German Baroque composer, Johann Groh, and a new work by Artistic Director, David Banney.

RESPIGHI Ancient Airs and Dances

RESPIGHI  Suite for Organ and Strings

TURINA La Oracion del Torero

VALENTE La Romanesca

Italian and Spanish flavours saturate this program in music of Respighi, Turina and others. Respighi's Suite for Organ and Strings puts the grand organ of Christ Church Cathedral in the spotlight, in the brilliant hands of David Drury. Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances show the composer's love of early music, but his arrangements are full of his typical energy and colour. In addition to brilliant works with the orchestra, the concert will include organ solos, amongst which is Valente's beautiful La Romanesca.
